What is telehealth?
The division of health-related services and information through electronic information and telecommunication technologies is called telehealth.
A physician can do contact and interact with his patient while sitting many kilometers away (but within a limited controlled area) from each other. He can also take care, prescribe, remind, educate, and monitor his patients through remote administrations.
Telemedicine is considered as the alternative name of telehealth or is used to explain limited remote clinical services such as identification (of diseases) and monitoring. When you face lack of transportation, disability for locomotion, insufficient funds, or deficient staff prohibits your approach to care, telehealth fills the gap between the distant providers and practitioners for learning, presentations, meetings, and supervisions.
Telehealth can also include two physicians debating a case through the video conference. It may also have a robotic surgery done through remote access, physical therapy occurring through digital monitoring instruments, online discussion, and videophone interpretation during a consult.
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine can be defined as “the remote provision of health care facilities.”Its common types are as follows.
- Interactive Medicine
- Store and Forward
- Remote Patient monitoring
I. Interactive Medicine:
It permits patients and physicians to communicate with each other in real-time by the maintenance of HIPAA (Health insurance portability and accountability act) compliance.
II. Store and Forward:
It allows the provider to share the patient’s health information with a practitioner in another locality.
III. Remote Patient Monitoring:
It permits physicians to supervise their patients that stay at home to collect data (blood sugar, blood pressure, heartbeat, and pulse rate) with the help of mobile medical devices.
Conduction of telemedicine:
Telemedicine is conducted in various ways. The most fundamental is a simple video call (that you do with family, friends, and relatives.) Nevertheless, most of the countries of the world need securing HIPAA compliant video conference tool. So, many telemedicine companies provide this secure and simple solutions for providers.
Telemedicine health services can also be conducted through portable telemedicine kits. That consists of a computer and mobile medical devices, such as ECG watch or blood pressure monitor for vital signs diagnosis.High-resolution cameras are also present to send complete and detailed images to the specialists of the specific disease.
At last, powerful telemedicine software is available that permits everything from data storage to live video conferencing.
In conclusion, there are many ingenious telemedicine instruments to fulfill the requirements of today’s patients.
Difference between telemedicine and telehealth:
In the last decade, rapid advancements in medicine and technologies lead to many new terms. Policymakers, advocacy groups, and vendors unknowingly misunderstand these terms. It is right for telehealth and telemedicine. Two terms seem to be similar to each other, but there is a hell of a difference between them.
Telemedicine:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is “healing from distance.”It includes the use of telecommunication technologies and information technologies to provide remote-controlled health services to patients.
Physicians use it to transmit digital images, video consultations, and remote medical identification of diseases. It covers only clinical events. It means that it is a specific procedure to provide specific services to patients.
Telehealth:
Electronic information and telecommunication technologies are used to propagate and support distant professional health care services, patient and physician health education, public health, and health management.
Unlike telemedicine, it embraces non-clinical events like administrative meetings and consultations, continuing medical education (CME), and physical therapy training. It is not limited to specific circumstances. It is a collection of processes for the improvement of patient’s health care and education.
Finally, we can conclude that telehealth is far better than telemedicine because it covers all medical aspects, while telemedicine is only limited to clinical procedures.
How does telehealth co-operate with medicine?
According to the above information, we know that telemedicine only covers clinical procedures for treatment, and it does not include non-clinical events like the patient’s education, administration, and consultation.
On the other hand, telehealth includes all aspects of the medical field. It encompasses all processes from diagnosis to consultation and from treatment to recovery. In this way, it assists telemedicine for health care services.
